Michele Dykes, a Wits Digital Arts Animation MA alumni, returned to Digital Arts this March to run a two-day VJ workshop on Friday 6th – Saturday 7th for students and anyone else interested in exploring this growing field of practice and experimentation.
Michele has been developing a reputation as a VJ and projection-mapping artist in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Under the name VJ Fantasmagoria, Michele has been performing at live music events, dance clubs, parties and product launches. She has also participated in several international festivals of live visualisation.
Students on the workshop were taught basic content creation techniques, including animation and live-action for VJing. They were also introduced to the interface and features of the popular VJing software, Resolume Arena K. Over the course of a Friday afternoon and night going into the following Saturday the students prepared for a practical live performance on Saturday evening at a public event at Cabanga in Randburg.
